Can you take the test in French?
Three federal exemptions let eligible permanent residents take the civics portion in their native language.
If you are 50 or older and have been a permanent resident for 20+ years, you can take the civics test in French with an interpreter. You still take the full test.
If you are 55 or older with 15+ years as a permanent resident, you can take the civics test in French.
If you are 65 or older with 20+ years of residency, you study only the 20 designated questions and can take the test in French.
Note: You will need to bring your own interpreter to the USCIS interview. This can be a family member or friend who speaks both English and French.
