Three federal exemptions let eligible permanent residents take the civics portion in their native language.
If your parent is 50 or older and has been a permanent resident for 20+ years, they can take the civics test in Hmong with an interpreter. They still take the full test.
If your parent is 55 or older with 15+ years as a permanent resident, same benefit — civics test in Hmong.
If your parent is 65 or older with 20+ years of residency, they get a simplified test — only 20 questions instead of 128, and they can take it in Hmong.
