Can your parent take the test in Korean?

Three federal exemptions let eligible permanent residents take the civics portion in their native language.

50/20 Rule

If your parent is 50 or older and has been a permanent resident for 20+ years, they can take the civics test in Korean with an interpreter. They still take the full test.

55/15 Rule

If your parent is 55 or older with 15+ years as a permanent resident, same benefit — civics test in Korean.

65/20 Rule

If your parent is 65 or older with 20+ years of residency, they get a simplified test — only 20 questions instead of 128, and they can take it in Korean.

Note: Your parent will need to bring their own interpreter to the USCIS interview. This can be a family member or friend who speaks both English and Korean.
