Can your Mẹ take the test in Vietnamese?
Three federal exemptions let eligible permanent residents take the civics portion in their native language.
If your Mẹ is 50 or older and has been a permanent resident for 20+ years, they can take the civics test in Vietnamese with an interpreter. They still take the full test.
If your Mẹ is 55 or older with 15+ years as a permanent resident, they can take the civics test in Vietnamese.
If your Mẹ is 65 or older with 20+ years of residency, they study only the 20 designated questions and can take the test in Vietnamese.
Note: Your Mẹ will need to bring their own interpreter to the USCIS interview. This can be a family member or friend who speaks both English and Vietnamese.
